Import your data

OpenVPM supports reviewed CSV imports for clients, patients, vaccine history, and medical history.

Before you begin

Keep the source export unchanged and use a separate working copy when cleaning source data.

1. Import in dependency order

Import clients first, then patients, then vaccine history and medical history. Later files need the owners and patients to exist first.

2. Run the dry run

Open Settings → Data → Import Data, choose the source system and import type, then upload the CSV. OpenVPM recognizes supported column names and shows records that will import, reconcile, skip as duplicates, or be rejected.

Review duplicates, unmatched records, and row-level issues before importing.

3. Validate before authority

Resolve row issues, rerun the preview, then import. Compare record counts and manually inspect a representative sample before relying on the migrated data.

Future appointments, open balances, active prescriptions, attachments, labs, inventory, reminders, and communications are outside the basic self-service CSV path and require a separate migration plan.
